Unit Description

The Hematology Division is part of the Medicine Department is composed of two major subdivisions: (1) Oncology and (2) Hematology.
Oncology Clinics (two per week)
Hematology outpatient clinics (two per week)
Anticoagulant outpatient clinics (thrice per week)

No. of Beds

Same as medical beds for inpatients/ Sharing 8 beds with Medical Oncology branch in the Day Unit

Hours of Operation

07:30AM-16:30PM (Sun-Thurs.) On weekends, the admitting medical resident will admit to the Hematology service after informing the consultant on call and discussing the plan

Ages of patients served

Adult patients who are above 12 years of age





Mission

To deliver the best quality of healthcare to all patients coming for outpatient chemotherapy and blood products or medications delivery or any other procedures needed e.g. Bone marrow aspiration and biopsy, paracentesis or review of patient’s laboratory results.

Frequent Services/Procedures/Modalities/Functions:
  • Administration of Chemotherapeutic agents/ targeted therapy for hematological malignancy.
  • Bone marrow aspiration and biopsy
  • Lumbar Puncture
  • Administration of Blood and Blood Products
  • Administration of Intravenous Iron
  • Administration of recombinant Factors
  • Consultation
  • Arranging Outpatients visits for Hematology and Anticoagulation Clinics
  • Provide support for patient and family during the course of the patient’s treatment.
  • Provide cancer education for the patients and society.
  • Provide continuous medical education to staff.
  • Use Quality Improvement measures to improve the service provided.
  • Diagnostic and Therapeutic Modalities
