The Department of Preventive Medicine consists of ten main sections and three subdivisions as shown in the diagram.

The primary function of the department is to prevent and control infectious diseases both within the community and within the hospital. This is achieved by teaching the target communities the essentials of healthy living coupled with regular follow-ups. The School Health Programme and Vaccination Programme cater for the future generations.
Within the hospital situation the department is active in the control of infectious diseases, Health Education, Pest Control and health screening of food handles. Healthcare and wellbeing of the military personnel are provided for at the clinics at the hospital and on the Prince Abdullah Air Base. Average monthly workload is 2,200 outpatients at various clinics and 3,500 immunisations and skin tests.
